Congratulations to Dr. Thiago Lobato for successfully defending his #doctoral #thesis on “Improving sound source localization and characterization with #machinelearning techniques”! His thesis proposes innovative ways to localize and characterize sound sources more effectively by combining machine-learning techniques with analytical methods. This hybrid approach allowed the developed methods to show a great generalization and worked well in diverse practical scenarios. Effectively, Thiago’s work extends the possible user cases and accuracy of beamforming and sound source characterization with inverse methods. What is the #RelativeApproach? NVH sound design means detecting, evaluating, and reducing noise. However, disturbing noise is often not even recognizable in an FFT. Perceiving noise as disturbing or annoying is usually not a matter of a certain level and frequency but rather of the noise patterns.
